How Do I Add the ShareThis Button to my Blogger blog?

March 9th, 2010

A number of people have asked me about adding the ShareThis button to their Blogger blog. Blogger and ShareThis have teamed up to allow you do this, but it only shows up in the sidebar. However, most people want an individual button for each separate blog post.

This video tutorial shows just how to do that. Look below for the code mentioned in the video:

This is the code you put into the “post-footer” div:

<script type=’text/javascript’>
SHARETHIS.addEntry({title:&#39;<data:post.title/>&#39;,
url:&#39;<data:post.url/>&#39;
});
</script>

Backing Up Your cPanel Website

February 10th, 2010

Backing up your website hosting account is an important part of your internet strategy. Yes, your hosting provider probably makes backups. But should your account get wiped out or defaced, you will have to contact your hosting provider’s tech support and request a restore. All of which costs you time and money due to the downtime of your website.

By making your own backups, you can restore your website the moment you realize something is amiss. And you want those backups to be automated so that you do not have to remember to do it.

This video gives you a tutorial on how to schedule backups of your hosting account using cPanel’s “Cron Jobs” feature. This will backup all of your hosting account with the exception of your mySQL databases:

Domain Registration and Transfers now available!

January 12th, 2010

Many of our customers are frustrated by having their web presence services in multiple places. First, they purchase a domain name from a registrar, then they go to a different company to sign up for hosting and email. Now they have multiple accounts, multiple usernames, and multiple passwords to remember.

In our last blog post, we mentioned we were working on becoming able to register domain names. We are pleased to announce that time has come. We now offer domain registration in addition to our web design, hosting, and consultation services. And for those of you hosting your sites with us but purchasing domain names from other registrars, you can now transfer your registration to Renegade Tech Consulting.

With this addition, you can now have all  your web presence services in one place!

Register your new domains or transfer your existing domains to Renegade Tech Consulting today!

Happy New Year!

January 3rd, 2010

With each new year comes change, and there is no exception here at Renegade Tech Consulting.

We have a lot of changes and additions taking place in the coming months. As they occur, we will be sure to notify you of what’s new. A quick sneak peek couldn’t hurt, though.

Soon you will be able to purchase, renew, and transfer your domain names through RTC.

SSL certificates, too.

Okay, so enough peeking. Let’s get to the change that is coming in the next few weeks that will effect our hosting clients.

After conferring with our clients and doing an extensive in-house usability study, we have decided to move from a Plesk-based system to a cPanel-based system. Almost everyone has already used cPanel, and it is more friendly to our Wordpress customers.

This process will involve no work on your end. What it will require from you, however, is a brief period during which you do not update your sites.

Not to worry, however. You will be notified independently when your site is in migration. As soon as the migration is complete, we will provide your new usernames, passwords, and URLs to access your site control panel(s).

We are very excited about these changes and feel they will enable us to service you better than we have before. Of course, you should feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
